Trick or Treat?

Halloween night had arrived as the sun slowly disappeared over the barren hills, gradually spreading subtle colors everywhere. The Halloween spirit wasn't visible; the streets were empty, but a peculiar presence filled the space. Two siblings marched down the street, eagerly anticipating their baskets full of chocolates and candies, spoiling them. They rang doorbell after doorbell, waiting for treats...but got no answer. Puzzled, they approached another house, hopeful for a different answer. The house was brightly decorated with jack-o'-lanterns, skeletons, multi-colored lights, and fake tombstones. It was pleasant and generated positive vibes, or so they thought. Step by step, they made their way to the front porch; they heard a scream from inside, then an eerie silence. Then came maniacal laughter and a sigh of pleasure. The siblings exchanged glances and slowly backed up. Though it was too late. Mysterious, whimsical music played from a music box that hadn't been there a couple of minutes before. Perspiration trickled down their necks, as an agonizingly slow, prickly ascent began on their backs. They shuddered as moisturized lips touched their ears, whispering, "The weight of a truth, a secret to keep, a sharp, bloody dagger that cuts far too deep, your sins were your biggest and costliest choice, so listen up close to our echoing voice." Music halted. The streetlights flickered, and an eternal darkness absorbed the streets. When the lights popped back on, all that was left was two baskets.
