Fear
I am here with you, always lingering in your shadow.
You are not aware of me, but you sense my presence deep down.
I am the master of terror and dread, yet also only a playful trickster.
And I have the power to cut the blood-red ribbon of your life.
You, foolish human, want to get rid of me.
You think that I'm cruel, merciless, evil.
And you are not wrong... yet not quite right either.
I can establish your safety, or I can be the root of your failure.
Only the wisest of you see that and become allies with me.
Unfortunately, you're not one of them.
As you sit there in a classroom full of jubilant, naive children,
I come to you, suddenly and silently.
You are in the middle of a lecture when I appear behind you.
With one swift motion, I grab your throat.
You do not see me, yet you instantly feel a jolt of anxiety wash over you.
You become aware of the nauseous feeling deep in your stomach, the incessant echos behind your skull.
I begin my masterpiece.
I torture you with delusional fantasies,
I drag you down into my kingdom of eeriness
Then, my palm is gripping your throbbing heart.
By the time you notice, you were already panting, unable to breathe.
Your hallucinations have turned into panic.
You were already grasping your neck, trying to let in oxygen, to calm down-
But your body already forgot how.
By the time you arrive at the hospital, it is too late.
I enjoy the last moments of the beautiful duet of your pounding heart and the frantic shouts of the physicians.
With one final motion, I burst your heart.
You desperately try to keep your heart beating, just once more! Just once-
