I wake up to the sound of the rain's relentless hammering finally cede. Groggily peering outside my window and clearing away the fog, I see shimmering snowflakes falling from the sky, landing on the pavement and building a layer of snow on the ground. But that can't be right, it doesn't snow in Palo Alto! What was going on? I pull out my phone to see if anything on the news could explain the strange sight. After searching for a while, I find not a single article about the unexpected snowfall in the Bay Area. Glancing out the window, I notice a cloud of snow swirling around right in front of my window like a mini, white, tornado. At that moment, the shape of a deer starts to form in the mist. Am I seeing things right? I rub my eyes, thinking the apparition is a product of my sleepiness and the early hour. When my eyes clear again, a young, beautiful, white doe is standing outside my house. She paws the snowy ground and looks up at me, her head tilting inquisitively. Normally I would have already called for my parents or taken a picture of her, but this deer seems different then the ones I see at the park sometimes. She looks wise and watchful, like a guardian angel looking over the world with a kind gaze. The doe lifts her head up and looks me right in the eye. She jerks her head toward the snow covered path behind her, and I somehow understand the message. Come. I uncertainly rise out of bed and pull on some warm clothes. Then I quietly sneak down the hall to the front door, pull on some shoes, and go outside. I expected it to be freezing, but the cold isn't that bad and feels crisp on my face. I walk closer to the deer and hold a hand out shakily like you're supposed to do with dogs. The doe sniffs my hand, and then licks it! I let out a surprised giggle. The doe looks back at me, and then starts to transform. Her oblong head becomes the head of an elegant woman, and her horse-like body morphs into a humans. Suddenly, a woman dressed in a long white gown with glimmering sequins that look like real ice adorned on her hair is standing in front of me. I let out a gasp.
"Wha-?" I say, struggling to form words. The woman smiles.
"I know, it's a lot to get used to! But I'm sure we'll be great friends." Her voice is soft and refined, like the quick steps of a deer. "Let me show you the wonders this world has to offer." Then she holds out her hand. I hesitantly place mine in hers, and we are whisked away into a magical world.
